Mat was a survivor of childhood leukemia, but unfortunately lost his battle with brain cancer on September 18, 2019. Despite cancer becoming a defining factor in his life, he never let it define him. He lived his life to the fullest and didn't let his diagnosis hold him back.

Mat was kindhearted, loving, and selfless towards others. His smile and eternal optimism would brighten up an entire room. He was inspiring to many, and often left a lasting impact on people he only just met.

Mat was a skilled chef who loved to give himself new challenges. He self-educated himself on nutrition and became extremely knowledgeable in the topic, resulting in his decision to practice an oil-free, mostly whole food, vegan diet (which he always praised for relieving him of any side effects from his chemo).

Mat had an adventurous spirit and was never afraid to try new things. He loved to travel, surf, camp, ski, swim, ride his motorcycle, go skydiving, and so much more.

Out of all his experiences in life, CAMPFIRE CIRCLE (Formerly Camp Ooch & Camp Trillium) made the biggest impact. CAMPFIRE CIRCLE gave him happy memories when he was a child fighting cancer. Because of CAMPFIRE CIRCLE, Mat gained a support system and many friendships that were lifelong. Mat wanted to ensure that CAMPFIRE CIRCLE would always be there for the children who needed it, and always said that he wanted people to donate to CAMPFIRE CIRCLE after he passed, rather than sending flowers or similar condolences. By donating to CAMPFIRE CIRCLE in Mat's memory, you can help ensure that the organization that made the biggest impact on his life is able to continue to help children to find happiness in their darkest times.
