Childhood cancer changes lives. So does camp. And so can you.
A diagnosis of childhood cancer changes life in an instant. For kids and families, it can suddenly feel as though everything is about cancer. Simple childhood joys like friendships, birthday parties or sports teams are replaced with medical appointments, hospital stays and long absences from school. Siblings may be confused and miss much themselves. Two Ontario camps, now combined into Campfire Circle, fill the void, creating safe spaces for kids to be kids, so families can be families, at no cost to them. It’s where curiosity and confidence, courage and acceptance come to play, and healing through happiness is on the agenda, every day! Your support helps Campfire Circle as they continue to reach 1,500+ kids and their families every year. Your gift will make life-changing experiences possible.
For over two decades, Nigel was chair of the Set Sail for Hope Committee, a small group of friends and colleagues who volunteered their time throughout the year to organize a single fundraising event called Set Sail for Hope for Camp Trillium. Each mid-summer, 20 yachts and 20 Toronto hoteliers and restauranteurs gathered on Toronto Island to prepare a day of fine food and sailing for 20 corporate sponsors and 12 guests of their choice. The day was lavish, but the SSFH organizers were proud of the fact that they did not spend a cent ... everything was donated, everyone involved was a volunteer, every penny went to Camp Trillium. It is estimated that over the years the committee raised about three million dollars.
In celebration of two healthy, sports-loving children of his own, for whom every summer was like a camp, Nigel was dedicated to this project for families who, in so many ways, were not so fortunate.
